Most Common Academic Adjustments/Accommodations
- Extended testing time – students allowed additional time (1.5 or 2x) to complete exam. This can be built into the online testing parameters by the instructor.
- Access to notes – for classes with heavy lecture presentation, students may need access to notes from a classmate.
- Captioning – instructors are required to be sure that all video material is captioned, and to know how to display the captioning.
- Sign language interpreting – for a student who is deaf or hard-of-hearing, a sign language interpreter may be assigned to the class. This may be a staff interpreter or one provided through video relay. Interpreters may be needed in an online class if the instructor is providing lecture presentations.
- Physical access – students may need to sit closer to the front, or near a door. In some cases, if a student uses a wheelchair and cannot have access to the room or instructor (theater-style seating), the classroom will need to be moved.
