Chosen Name Policy

All Student including our transgender, gender non-conforming students may have their first name changed to their chosen name in Shasta College’s Student Information System. Students who have enrolled at Shasta College under their legal name may change their first name to a chosen first name that better reflects the identity of the student. To declare a chosen name at the college, students may complete and submit the Change of Personal Information Form. It can take up to 7 days after being changed in our database for the chosen name to be reflected in the various third party platforms such as Microsoft 365, Canvas, MyShasta (including course rosters). Offices are only able to look up student records by student ID or legal name. It is recommended you bring your student ID card with you when requesting assistance from any department on campus. Your chosen name will be displayed for Staff to see and know to use the chosen name.

Title IX

Trans and gender nonconforming students are protected under Title IX, a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs.
