Hello! 

Although we always have great attendance for Math Camp, a few students recently told me that they were considering attending but chose not to because they didn’t know what to expect, felt a little nervous, and so they didn’t make it a priority.  

That’s completely understandable!

Here’s a “quick” breakdown of the Math Camp Experience.

(First, I get a lot of questions about the cost: Math Camp, all materials needed, snacks, drinks, lunch, and parking - everything Is Free!)

1. Math Camp is a comfortable, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere! You are not put on the spot, and we have plenty of helpful and compassionate math learning assistants to provide guidance. This will be my fifth year running Math Camp and my eighth (or ninth?) year teaching at Math Camp and all students that I’ve encountered attending Math Camp have been personable, friendly, and kind. There is a lot of laughter and fun and No Pressure to Perform! 
2. There are breaks between sessions, snacks and drinks provided, and Free Lunch courtesy of Shasta College. We have three rooms booked for sessions in our 1100 (math) building and we meet as a whole group at the beginning and end of each day. There are prize drawings at the end of the day (must be present to win!) We also provide all supplies necessary for activities. You are not graded- Your Math Camp participation and practice does NOT go on your academic record!
3. “Who attends Math Camp? Who am I going to be surrounded by?” These are questions I would have if I were in your shoes! The short answer is, EVERYONE. People who have not had a math course in a long time and are feeling straight panic about learning math again- Been there! Middle and high school students (must have a SC student ID, though). People who have just taken a math course and want to revisit material that they’ve forgotten over the summer so that they feel ready for their next math course… We have campers of many backgrounds, a wide age and experience range, and what we all have in common is a desire to start the fall semester as strong as possible and have fun while we’re at it! 
4. Aside from math practice, we also focus on providing you with tips for success in your college experience, and we can point you toward many resources that the college has to offer so that you are aware of available support that you might not have known of otherwise.
