Should you decide to transfer to a four-year university after earning your degree here at Shasta College, it is important you verify that the classes you are taking will count at the university of your choosing. Meet with your academic counselor to make sure all of your courses are transferrable if you plan to attend a university.

What is Articulation?

Articulation is the process where college faculty review and decide if courses from one school count toward admission, transfer credit, general education, or major requirements at another school. This helps students move smoothly from high school or another college to Shasta College, or from Shasta College to a four-year university. When you complete an "articulated course" at Shasta, it can count toward a university's admission or graduation requirements before you transfer. Shasta College aims to remove obstacles to make transferring credits easier and to support students moving between schools.

Shasta College’s Articulation Officer helps create and keep updated agreements with other colleges and universities. These agreements make it easier for students to transfer credits. The officer follows the rules and guidelines in the California Articulation Policies and Procedures Handbook, a resource from the California Intersegmental Articulation Council, which is a group of professionals working to support student transfer between California colleges and universities.

Many colleges have articulation agreements, which define which courses they consider comparable. We have articulation agreements with University of California (UC), California State University (CSU), and some accredited private and out-of-state colleges.

California Public Universities (CSU and UC)

Independent Colleges and Universities (AICCU)

Some California Independent Colleges and Universities accept completed IGETC or CSU GE Breadth Coursework for Transfer Admission

Successful transfer planning involves developing an educational plan that includes completing articulated courses for major preparation and general education. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with a Shasta College Counselor to develop an educational plan. You can make appointments through our Shasta College Counseling.

General Education Advising Worksheets

This is for advising purposes only and not a student educational plan:

To learn more and view the GE patterns, please visit the following: General Education for Transfer.

The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) is a single set of general education classes that California Community College (CCC) students can complete to meet the lower-level requirements for transferring to either the California State University (CSU) or the University of California (UC) systems. This curriculum is managed by the Intersegmental Committee of the Academic Senates (ICAS), which includes faculty from California's three public higher education systems.

International Coursework

International coursework may be applied to Cal-GETC if the international institution has United States accreditation. All other international coursework cannot be applied to Cal-GETC.

UC Credit Limitations

Every California Community College has a Transfer Course Agreement (TCA) with the University of California that specifies how many units of credit will be granted by the UC. Students should pay special attention to courses and units granted when applying the units to meet the 60 units for admission.

Courses Appropriate for CALGETC

Courses must be both CSU and UC transferable. Please visit www.assist.org for transferability.

External Examinations

For information on using Advanced Placement (AP) credit to fulfill GE requirements, view the AP Exam Credit Equivalency Chart. For information on using IB credit to fulfill GE requirements, view the
International Baccalaureate (IB) Examinations. CLEP cannot be used for Cal-GETC.

To Current and Prospective Students: The information provided in this system is meant to be used as a guide only for how your current or former courses from a previous institution will transfer to Shasta College. This comprehensive database does not guarantee that all courses are listed. Course equivalences provided through TES are subject to change as institutions and updated courses are frequently added and amended.

Please schedule an appointment with a counselor as final decisions regarding transferable courses are contingent upon official transcript evaluations and your educational goal.

Pass-along is a process where Shasta College considers course work taken at another institution prior to enrolling at Shasta College when certifying work for one of the local, IGETC, CSU GE patterns or major preparatory courses.

If you have a general education course from a regionally accredited institution that is NOT part of the California Community College system and would like it to be formally approved, please complete this form: Shasta College Pass Along Petition Form (PDF).
