Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Western Shasta Resource Conservation District (WSRCD) is seeking a qualified Restoration Project Coordinator to carry out a range of activities including assisting in the planning, permitting, and implementation of fisheries habitat restoration and enhancement, erosion control, water quality, fuel reduction, wildfire rehabilitation, flood hazard mitigation, and other natural resources-related projects.

The selected candidate will report to their assigned Project Manager and will work with other WSRCD staff as needed to ensure the successful implementation of projects. They will work closely with a broad array of partner organizations, government agency staff, and public and private landowners. The Restoration Project Coordinator will “wear many hats” at the RCD. They will have experience developing, planning, implementing, and monitoring environmental conservation and restoration projects. They will work across many disciplines and must have technical, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.

DUTIES

• Assist in managing contracts with funders, consultants and subcontractors.

• Assist in managing budgets, invoicing and reporting.

• Coordinate communications between project partners and stakeholders.

• Coordinate with project partners and consultants to develop environmental documents and permits.

• Coordinate the development of project designs and logistics for project implementation.

• Provide oversight of implementation activities, including photo and biological monitoring.

• Assist staff on other projects as appropriate.

• Oversee monitoring activities, including collecting data in the field, data entry, equipment preparation and maintaining supplies.

• Coordinate workshops or training events on invasive plant removal, native plant revegetation, water conservation, fire recovery, demonstration projects, and other topics as needed.

• Assist in the development and management of other restoration projects as needed, including seeking permits and landowner approval.

• Participate in technical presentations and workshops.

• Other duties as may be assigned by the Projects Manager.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (three or more years of professional experience) with focus on environmental studies, natural sciences, forestry, fire ecology, resource management, watershed science, conservation planning, or related field.

• Knowledge of watershed stewardship and conservation, forestry, wildland fuels reduction and vegetation management, basic hydrology, basic soil science, native plant and animal communities, and/or restoration ecology.

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in collecting monitoring field data and writing technical reports.

• Demonstrated ability to coordinate with private landowners and local, state and federal agencies, plan and facilitate meetings, distribute meeting minutes, and attend or participate in meetings or workshops coordinated by local service groups, agencies, municipalities or partners.

• Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate with the public and other resource professionals and ability to work with a variety of people with diverse interests and temperaments.

• Experience managing junior staff or field crews in a supervisory role.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

• Familiarity with ESRI software (ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, ArcGIS Online, etc.)

• Highly organized and motivated with the ability to prioritize.

• Physically able to work in the field (climbing in and out of streams, lifting, carrying supplies and equipment, planting, etcetera) in all seasons.

• Must possess a valid California driver’s license, clean driving record, and current auto insurance.

• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the time of hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Familiarity with local threatened and endangered species, including habitat needs and legal protections.

• Proficiency with ESRI products preferred.

• Familiarity with local, state, and federal permits required for restoration projects.

• Experience working with fire safe councils, watershed groups or other conservation groups.

• Good independent worker, collegiality, flexibility, strong desire to learn.
