Job Description

Wente Family Estates is seeking interns to join our winemaking team for the upcoming harvest. Blending traditional and innovative winemaking practices, Wente Family Estates draws from our estate vineyards in the Livermore Valley and Arroyo Seco, Monterey appellations to create an outstanding portfolio of fine wines. This is an exciting role with the opportunity to work with a wide range of varietals and wine styles.

Interns will have a hands-on opportunity to work side-by-side with our seasoned winemaking, cellar and quality teams. This is a seasonal position that will start in late-August and last until early-November. Ideal candidates will be energetic, dependable, passionate about making world class wines.

Job duties will include grape receiving, sorting, crushing, pressing, rackings, pomace-transfers, juice/must additions, inoculations, punchdowns, barrel prep/filling, winery sanitation, lab work, vineyard sampling, bottling, and other general winery operations.

Candidates must be flexible to work varying shifts, overtime, weekends, and must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.

Essential Duties:

  • Sanitize winery equipment such as tanks, barrels, pumps, hoses and processing equipment
  • Operate heavy mechanical equipment such as forklifts, tractors and truck scales
  • Fill, check levels, and empty tanks and barrels and perform basic chemical additions
  • Crush pad and press operations
  • Inoculations and additions
  • Fermentation management
  • Barrel shepherding, racking, and filling
  • Berry maturation sampling
  • Introductory bench chemistry

Requirements

Successful Candidates Will Possess:

  • Ability to accurately execute and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to understand and read English to the extent necessary to perform job functions
  • High attention to detail with excellent follow through
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to work in a safe, efficient manner
  • Be energetic, dependable, highly organized, and have the ability to work in teams
  • A flexible schedule including evening, weekend and overtime availability, swing shift as needed
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills are desired
