The City of Richmond is looking to hire two full-time Equipment Operators vacancies within our Public Works Streets Division. As an integral part of keeping our City maintained and running, this position will be operating a wide variety of heavy equipment and vehicles such as: Front-end loaders, backhoes, skip loaders, bobcats, street sweepers, breakdown and finish rollers, 10 wheel dump trucks, and more.

Our Ideal Candidates will have: A valid Class "A" Driver License with a 5th wheel endorsement, be able to perform minor preventive maintenance tasks on heavy equipment, and provide written pre and post operation booklet documentation.

Position Description and Duties

Under general supervision, to perform skilled work in the operation of a wide variety of heavy motorized construction and maintenance equipment; and to do related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Operates various types of heavy motorized equipment in the construction and maintenance of varied public works projects.

2. Dumps and spreads rock, gravel, and plant mix.

3. Applies road oil, using oil truck, spray bar and hand spraying equipment.

4. Grades, rakes and tamps road surfaces.

5. Operates roller to compact road surface; operates grader, front-end loader, truck and auxiliary equipment used in street construction and maintenance; operates power sweeper to clean city streets; on a regular schedule, road, drags, and flushes sewers.

6. Makes repair to sewer lines.

7. Lays and caulks sewer pipe; mixes and applies paint for traffic signs and markings.

8. Installs and maintains a variety of traffic control devices.

9. Directs one or more helpers as required; occasionally acts as the foreman in his absence.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: and skill in the use of the tools and materials commonly used in public works construction and maintenance.

Ability to: operate a variety of heavy motorized equipment; follow oral and written directions; supervise helpers.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and two years of experience in operating construction and maintenance equipment.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Performance Exam: The Performance Exam may test a candidate's job-related knowledge, their ability to follow instructions, and other areas as they pertain to the position. A score of 70% or better is required to pass. Rank on the Employment List will be determined solely by test score. (WEIGHTED 100%).

Employment List: A ranking of "A" (Best Qualified), "B" (Well Qualified), or "C" (Qualified) is required to achieve a position on the Employment List. This Employment List will be in effect for a maximum of two (2) years; however, the list may be canceled, without notice, after six (6) months.
