REDDING – In a continuing effort to help students transfer to CSUs in a variety of disciplines, Shasta College has added five additional Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) to the eight existing this year.  Degrees available for Fall 2014 are:

  • Administration of Justice
  • Business Administration
  • Communication Studies
  • Early Childhood Education
  • English
  • Kinesiology
  • Music
  • Philosophy
  • Physics
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Studio Arts
  • Theatre Arts

Each of these degrees has 60 units and contains all the lower division general education courses that a student will need entering a CSU.  After completing an ADT, a student will receive priority admission to a CSU in a similar program and will enter as a junior. The goal is to decrease the time needed for transfer students from Shasta College to complete related four-year degrees.

Daniel Valdivia, Transfer Counselor at Shasta College, said, “The ADT degree is a great option for students who are interested in transferring to one of the 23 campuses in the CSU system.  It guarantees that students who complete an ADT degree from Shasta College will be admitted to a CSU campus.”

In addition, Shasta College is adding full-time faculty in some of the areas that have ADTs, such as Psychology and Administration of Justice.  More faculty will enable the college to offer additional sections of the courses students need to complete the ADTs.

Orientations for Fall 2014 are taking place now at Shasta College and general registration begins on June 2.  Summer registration begins April 9 for new students.  Visit www.shastacollege.edu for more information.
