I always wanted to become a veterinarian, so after graduating from Enterprise High School, I moved to Sacramento to go to a community college and transfer to UC Davis. Unfortunately, I had little guidance once I made it to college, and I eventually dropped out. I became involved in abusive and toxic relationships that ultimately led me down the wrong path. By my mid-20s, I had ended up in Shasta County Jail. At this point, I realized I needed to make some serious changes in my life. After my release, I joined the Shasta College STEP-UP program.

In high school, I was an average student. However, with the help and support of STEP-UP, I have earned straight A’s every semester at Shasta College and also at Chico State! While at Shasta College, I was one of 7 students selected for a scholarship to study in South Korea for a semester. While there, I made new friends worldwide, swam with whale sharks, jumped off of an 85ft waterfall, and tried so many delicious foods! Never in my life did I think I would get to experience such things.

I am just a few semesters away from earning my B.S. in Business from CSU Chico. I also work as a student mentor for STEP-UP, where I can help other students get on a better path and find their success. I love that I can give back to STEP-UP because I genuinely appreciate everything they have done for me.
