ENROLLMENT

Spring Semester- Starts next week!

If you’re receiving this e-newsletter then you already know that come January 19 the holidays are officially over, the fruitcake from Aunt Marge should be tossed out, and it’s time to start classes again! With all the emails floating around about the semester start we’ll summarize a couple of things for you here:

  1. 50% or more of classes are going to be offered in person. Fans of attending class in bunny slippers rejoice, many classes have sections still being offered online
  2. Various services like Counseling, Financial Aid, Health and Wellness, etc. will be offered in-person and online, or via phone
  3. No shirt, no shoes, no mask…well, you know. Mask up if you’re coming on campus. Masks required indoors

FINANCIAL AID

Spring Scholarship Application Period Now Open

Show me the money! That’s right, it’s Christmas all over again. Shasta College scholarship opportunities are available to students who have completed 12 college units prior to the beginning of this semester and are currently enrolled in at least six (6) units. (Unless you are a high school senior graduating from a high school located within the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Community College District). Our donors could be looking for someone like you! Apply at https://shastacollege.academicworks.com/ by March 20, 2022.

Book Assistance Applications

We are now accepting Book Assistance applications. Book Assistance may be either in the form of a Book Grant or Book Loan. Apply for both as book grants are limited and will be awarded in the order requests are received. Applications are for the current semester only. Free Dental Cleanings

Question: Do you need a dental cleaning? Shasta College Dental Hygiene offers free dental cleanings to qualifying* currently enrolled Shasta College students, and low-cost dental cleanings to the general public. All patients are screened to determine eligibility prior to scheduling appointments. 

When: A special screening event by appointment for new patients is being held on Wednesday, January 19th -- appointments available in the morning only. Please call to reserve yours today! (530) 339-3608. 

Thereafter, regular screening sessions will be held on January 24th – May 18th, Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. only. Space is limited so please call for an appointment. Student performed cleanings and x-rays. Contact our office at (530) 339-3608 for scheduling and further information.

THEATRE 

Spring Play Auditions

Are you a budding Thespian? Dream of breaking into show biz? Well, now’s your chance! Auditions for our spring play, “Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play” will be January 19 & 20, 6:00 p.m. at the Shasta College Theatre. Please come prepared with a one-minute monologue, preferably comedic. Directed by Dr. Gregory Thorson.

STUDENT LIFE
  • The Library has Moved! Come visit your friendly library staff in the Learning Center (700 building) while the 200 building is renovated. Students can borrow textbooks, Chromebooks, calculators, and more for semester-long loans. We also have research help, computers, and printers. Come upstairs for cozy study spaces in 781 and 785.
  • EOPS Accepting Applications Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) provides academic and supplemental financial support for students challenged by economic, educational, and language disadvantages. Students can submit an application by going to this link. Upon approval, students are invited to a virtual orientation. Deadline: January 31, 2022. For more information, call (530) 242-7540.
  • Graduation Application Deadline Do you plan to graduate this year? Now is the time to submit your degree application and indicate if you’ll attend commencement in the spring. Find information and the application at: www.shastacollege.edu/ApplyForDegree. Please meet with a counselor if you are unsure about coursework or requirements. All degree completion or diploma questions should be emailed to evaluator@shastacollege.edu

CAMPUS SAFETY

Parking Permits

Free Parking: Employees, Visitors, and Students will not be required to have a parking permit for the spring semester. We are not enforcing employee, visitor, or student permit violations during the spring semester. We will continue to enforce handicapped and loading zone violations. Starbucks Stays Put 

Extra Whip Cream: For those of you worried about how to get your double dose of Starbucks goodness don’t fear! Starbucks remains open in the same place in the Library (200 building)—you just need to access it from the outside patio entrance.
