Consider quitting tobacco for the day or for life! Shasta County has one of the worst death rates in the state for chronic lower respiratory diseases and lung cancer, 54 and 55 out of 58 counties respectively. Lung cancer and chronic lower respiratory disease, such as emphysema, are mainly caused by the use of tobacco. At least one‐third of all Shasta County cancers deaths are attributable to tobacco use. The Shasta College Health & Wellness Office is participating in the Great American Smokeout on Thursday, November 21st with an information table from 10am-1pm in front of the north entrance of the 2300 building. In addition to tobacco quit kits and health education about tobacco cessation strategies, screening will be available for carbon monoxide in exhaled breath.
