AUDITIONS — Guys & Dolls

Shasta College is delighted to announce auditions for our Summer 2025 musical, the classic comedy Guys and Dolls! 

The epitome of the light midcentury musical comedy, Guys and Dolls initially ran for more than a thousand consecutive performances during its 1950 Broadway run. Beloved by critics and audiences, it is one of the most frequently-revived and popular shows in Broadway and regional theatre. 

It tells the story of Nathan Detroit, a gambler looking to set up the largest craps game in New York City while evading the bumbling efforts of the local authorities, and his girlfriend, Adelaide, who is becoming more and more insistent on marriage after their fourteenth year of engagement. When Detroit turns to fellow gambler Sky Masterson for cash to support the game, he in turn must chase after Sarah Brown, a straightlaced missionary, and musical high jinks ensue. Frank Loesser’s immortal songs and the fast-paced, wisecracking comedy of Swerling & Burrows’ script make for a crowd-pleasing time at the theatre that’s suitable for the whole family. 

Auditions 

Auditions will be held on December 9th and 10th at 6:00pm, in the Shasta College theatre (building 500). Auditions are open to students and interested community members of all ages. Interested parties should arrive with the following: 

• A one-minute comedic monologue, prepared in advance and memorized
• The appropriate musical excerpt from the show (reach out by email to dfitzgerald@shastacollege.edu for a list of excerpts or assistance getting sheet music), also memorized
• Comfortable clothing that they can move in easily (leggings or bike shorts, jazz shoes or sneakers) for the dance portion of the audition (not all roles are dance-heavy, but there are a few roles specifically for experienced dancers) 

Performances 

The show will run from July 18th to July 27th, 2025. Rehearsals should commence on June 9th. A more detailed rehearsal calendar will be provided if and when you are cast.
