Shasta College wants to ensure that all students are treated fairly and equitably. Students who claim that there has been a violation or misapplication of the regulations in the college catalog, board policies, operating procedures, or who feel they have been denied due process may file a complaint or grievance.
Students who wish to appeal a course grade or believe there has been a violation of the right of free expression should read the instructions and follow those procedures.
All other complaints may be filed with any department and/or division by completing the student complaint form. Complaint forms should have a detailed explanation of the complaint. Students should explain, as clearly as possible, why they are filing a complaint and include all the necessary information (including names, dates, etc.) to support their statements so the complaint can be appropriately addressed. Completed forms will be routed to the appropriate office or department where the incident occurred.
The determination of the student’s grade by the instructor shall be final in the absence of mistake, fraud, bad faith, or incompetence. All changes or modifications to a student record must be requested no later than one year from the end of the semester in which the grade was posted. If a grade is found to have been given in error, the incorrect grade will be replaced with the correct grade. Please use this process to appeal a final grade.
Students with disabilities have the right to appeal decisions regarding an accommodation provided by the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District. This may include perceived denials of accommodations, suspension of services, or other decisions regarding accommodations and use of auxiliary aids. The process for resolving disagreements related to PACE can be found by reviewing the Resolution of Disagreements Related to PACE section.
Shasta College and its employees make every effort to serve students and visitors courteously and efficiently consistent with college policies and state and federal laws. A student who believes that they have been treated unfairly by an employee of the district is recommended to make a good faith attempt to resolve the problem on an informal basis with the party/parties involved before following the grievance process.
A student grievance is a claim by a student’s rights have been adversely affected by a college decision or action. The Grievance process is also available for students who believe that their rights have been adversely affected by an employee of the District. The student is entitled to representation by a person of their choice, other than legal counsel, at all informal complaint meetings.
Please navigate to Students Rights and Grievances for more information. Shasta College is committed to resolving student grievances in a fair and equitable manner. Students are encouraged to work through the District’s process first. If issues are not resolved at the District level, they may be presented to the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO). Please see the CCCCO's Complaint Process.
