Appealing Academic Notice or Academic Pause
There is an appeal process available if you have extenuating circumstances and do not feel that your academic notice or pause is an appropriate evaluation of your academic performance.
Appealing Academic Notice or Academic Pause
Submit an Academic Notice/Academic Pause Petition. You will be asked to provide an explanation of your circumstances and the reasons for your request. Successful petitions tend to focus on situations that were outside the control of the student. Any documentation you have of your circumstances can improve your petition; a letter from your Counselor can help your petition, but it is not required. The petition will be reviewed by the college’s Scholastic Standards Committee (a faculty committee). You will be notified of the committee’s decision in writing by the Associate Dean of Student Services or their designee.
Appeals must be submitted within 30 days of the date your academic notice or academic pause notification was emailed to you.
To obtain a copy of this petition, please contact Cindy Silva in the Admissions and Records Office.
If your appeal is not approved by the Scholastic Standards Committee, you may appeal that decision by writing a letter to the Superintendent/President or designee within 10 working days of the date you were notified of the Scholastic Standards Committee’s decision. The decision of the Superintendent/President or designee is final.
An academic pause is NOT the end of your journey at Shasta College. You can always Restart!
