Academic Pause
A student who does not regain Good Academic Standing after three consecutive semesters on academic notice may be subject to an academic pause. A pause can either be one or two semesters long, and then the student may Restart at Shasta College.
Notification of Academic Pause
A student will receive academic pause notification within 30 working days after the end of the previous semester. There is an opportunity to appeal academic pause, if there are extenuating circumstances affecting your academic performance.
Academic Pause Notification after Fall Semester
- If you are already registered in Spring semester classes, you are not required to submit an appeal. You can continue to remain enrolled on academic notice status and have your status reevaluated at the end of Spring semester.
- If you are not yet registered in Spring semester classes, you will be required to pause for Spring unless you submit an academic pause appeal within 30 days of the notification being sent to you, and it is granted.
- If you do not submit an appeal, or your appeal is not granted, you must pause for at least Spring semester; you can restart at Shasta College in the fall
Academic Pause Notification after Spring Semester
- If you are already registered for Summer classes and Fall classes:
- If you earn a 2.0 GPA or better in your summer classes, you may stay registered in your Fall classes (your academic standing will be academic notice level 2).
- If you earn less than a 2.0 GPA in your summer classes, you will be dropped from your Fall classes and required to pause for at least one semester.
- If you are already registered for Summer classes, but not Fall classes:
- You can stay registered for Summer classes, but you will not be able to register for Fall classes.
- You may remain enrolled if you submit an academic pause appeal within 30 days of the notification being sent to you, and it is granted.
