Sex Offender Registry Information

Campus Safety works in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies to ensure that mandated sex offenders, who attend Shasta College, register with the jurisdictional agency where they reside in accordance with the following federal regulations:

  • "Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act" of 2000, which amends the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act
  • Jeanne Clery Act
  • Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 (42 U.S.C. 16921)
  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974

The objective is to provide the utmost safety and welfare of students, employees, and visitors attending all Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District campuses. Convicted sexual offenders are required to register under Section 290 if they are residing on the College campus, enrolled as a student of the College, employed by the College, either full-time or part-time (includes paid employees or volunteers); or working or carrying on a vocation at the College (e.g. contractors) for more than 14 days or for an aggregate period exceeding 30 days in a calendar year.

Persons listed above must register with law enforcement agencies responsible for their specific jurisdiction within five working days commencing enrollment or employment with the College. Registrants are also required to notify the responsible law enforcement agency within five working days of ceasing to be enrolled or employed, or ceasing to carry on a vocation at the College. AB 1313 amended 290.1 (d) (1), which allows sex offender registration information to be released to members of the campus community by police.

Furthermore, the sex offender, who is a student, employee, or visitor of any Shasta-Tehama­Trinity Joint Community College District property, must fully disclose to that law enforcement agency that they are attending, employed, or visiting Shasta College. It is strongly recommended that after registration with the jurisdictional agency, the offender directly check-in at Campus Safety, Building 6500.
